Its underlying difficulty and game play mechanics is something that definitely interests me as a Dark Souls player, however the game has very little sense of variety. Upon reaching 100 stress, the character is tested, and either comes out with a negative or positive change. Running out of food, running low on torches to provide light, even enemies and traps can cause your characters to accumulate stress. The main mechanic to be discussed here is stress. All sorts of things can stress your party out. Using new and interesting mechanics the game takes a very dark twist on the classic dungeon crawling formula. Thugs, Bandits, Skeletons, Zombies, Demons, you name it and its more than likely included in Darkest Dungeons expansive collection of horrors awaiting you in the depths. Each new day the player can recruit new heroes to join their roster, and select four of these to take in a dungeon, searching not only for loot to upgrade the nearby town, but also for answers as to why the estate is in such a mess in the first place. Be it undead soldiers risen from the grave, or thugs and murderers after your precious food and loot, Darkest Dungeon will see your party die and die again to all kinds of unsightly horrors.ĭarkest Dungeon is a role playing dungeon crawler where the player has to assemble a party of heroes to delve into dungeons around a nightmarish estate.
